Cat therapy
What is Cat Therapy?
Cat therapy is one more variant of assisted activities for therapeutic purposes. These activities must be designed, planned and developed by a technician in animal assisted therapy.
Cat therapy is ideal for children, it is a great responsibility for them because they must take care of it, feed it and educate it, which is not always an easy task. The fact of having these responsibilities increases the self-esteem of the boys, since they feel that the cat needs them in some way.
It is also very suitable for the elderly because the purr of cats helps to better manage emotions, lowers blood pressure, generates endorphins and improves the immune system. It encourages the desire to communicate and helps eliminate stress.
Benefits of Cat Therapy
Francesc Cuatrecasas, author of the book Cat-therapy, explains that cats help people who have psychological disorders such as: depression, anorexia, schizophrenia, autism and attention deficit.
The benefits of cat therapy are many:
They involve all the people who participate in the activities.
Its purr produces a vibration whose effects are very relaxing.
Relieves stress and helps with depression.
Lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow.
Your company improves anxiety levels
Helps in overcoming various phobias.
Boost motivation and enthusiasm.
They get people closed in on themselves to trust others and communicate with the environment.
Improves concentration.
How do you choose a cat
for cat therapy?
Each person has an assigned cat for their sessions. At Pets Club we have a team of cats prepared for cat therapy sessions. The cat is chosen taking into account the needs of the person and the interaction of the client and cat.
The specialist will be the one who determines which animals are suitable for specific activities. Also, you will need to make sure that this animal is perfectly trained to safely interact with other people it does not know.
Therapy animals are specially chosen by the Animal Assisted Intervention Technician.
Not all cats in La Gatera can be therapy cats, a good cat therapy animal should be friendly, calm, patient and trusting.
The frequency of the sessions is established according to the client's needs and the objectives set for it.
It can be weekly or biweekly and last one hour
Can I adopt my therapy cat?
The cats we work with in the cat therapy sessions cannot be adopted, they are part of the Pets Club team
These cats have been previously trained to be therapy cats.
But if after the experience with our therapy cats you want to adopt a cat, we will be delighted.
Since our main objective is to increase the number of adoptions
